Popping Tips

Stove Top

Pour 2 Tbsp cooking oil of your choice into your pan. Add 2 or 3 kernels and heat over medium high heat. When these kernels pop, add 1/3 cup of popcorn kernels, or enough kernels to cover the bottom of your pan. When popping begins, cover and shake the pan occasionally. When popping has slowed almost to a stop, immediately remove the popcorn from the pan and pour into a large serving bowl. Season with salt and melted butter.

Air Poppers

Air poppers are a great option for popping our Crimson, Native Mix, Blue Ribbon White, and Organic White popcorn varieties. Air poppers by nature can generate flying kernels, and we find this happens more often with our Original Black kernels which are small and light. Our air popper customers tell us if the black kernels escape before they pop, they find something (like an oven mitt) to place over the popper chamber during the initial popping. Some also say that preheating the popper before popping helps. The best way to pop our Original Black popcorn is either with oil on the stove top, or with a stir popper or microwave popper.

Stir Poppers

Our gourmet Black Jewell popcorn kernels can be used with electric stir poppers such as West Bend’s Stir Crazy or the Cuisinart EasyPop, and also with stove top poppers such as the Whirley Pop.

Microwave Poppers

A variety of microwave popcorn poppers are available and can be used with each variety of Black Jewell’s gourmet popcorn kernels.
